Oat fiber as a trending health ingredient

09 Jan 2019 --- In November 2017, Naturex firmed up its presence in the natural nutrition market with the acquisition of Swedish Oat Fiber, a specialized manufacturer of oat dietary fibers, oils and proteins. Naturex, in turn now, has been acquired by Givaudan recently. Speaking to Nutritioninsight at HiE, Frankfurt 2018, Peo Crona said: “We only do oat-based products, such as oat beta-glucans, oat oil and oat flour. The sports nutrition market is one of the markets that the company is targeting where oat products can be mainly used as an instant powder for athletes or gym goers. When it comes to beta-glucans, oats have some excellent health claims. We are really going back to basics with these ingredients; they are clean label and very trendy among consumers.”

18 May 2016 --- Cocoa beans contain flavanols that, through their beneficial effect on the endothelium, improve blood vessel elasticity by 23%. Consequently, flavanols contribute to healthy blood flow, a reduction in hypertension and increased heart function. At Vitafoods 2016, Naturex showcased CocoActiv, a ready-to-market cocoa-based solution that combines quality sourcing (in collaboration with Barry Callebaut group), scientific expertise and an authorized EFSA 13.5 health claim, namely “cocoa flavanols help maintain the elasticity of blood vessels, which contributes to normal blood flow.”

In September 2017, Naturex signed a global distribution agreement via its Open Innovation program (Ingenium) with Colorado-based start-up, MycoTechnology, for their PureTaste, shiitake mushroom plant protein created by patent-pending fungi fermentation technology.
