Solvay Welcomes Positive EFSA Opinion on Lactulose
This food ingredient is now recognized for its beneficial effect on intestinal transit, with a daily dose 10 grams of galactofructose in a portion of food helping to reduce transit time.
22 Nov 2010 --- Solvay France has announced that the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has issued a positive scientific opinion on the nutritional ingredient lactulose (or galactofructose), marketed by Solvay under the name Solactis.
This food ingredient is now recognized for its beneficial effect on intestinal transit, with a daily dose 10 grams of galactofructose in a portion of food helping to reduce transit time.
In its opinion, EFSA has thus confirmed a direct cause and effect relationship between the consumption of galactofructose and a return to normal transit time. In the view of the Authority, this reduction in transit time can be considered as a beneficial physiological effect for the consumer.
In this way, Solactis becomes one of the first nutritional ingredients to have a digestive health allegation validated as effective by the EFSA.
Solactis in powder format is produced in France. This nutritional ingredient won the 2009 Frost & Sullivan "Digestive Health Ingredient of the Year" prize.
