Ovaterra launches prenatal supplements, expands market reach
20 Apr 2022 --- Ovaterra is rolling out two prenatal vitamins designed for pre-, during-, and post-pregnancy. Introduced in capsule format, the supplements aim to support women who are reproductively challenged or advanced in their reproductive age.
The launch is positioned as a new variety of prenatal supplements uniquely targeting women between the ages 35 and 39, as no previous product has been designed to meet the needs of this specific target group in this context, according to Ovaterra.
“We worked for 18 months on the product to source the highest quality ingredients in the middle of the pandemic. We went through multiple iterations and tests before settling on the final formulation,” Jodi Neuhauser, co-founder and CEO of Ovaterra tells NutritionInsight.
Currently available in the US, Canada, EU and the UK, the company aims to expand its reach in the next year.
“We are opening up markets in Australia and the Middle East in the next 12 months. In addition, we have distributors in Ghana, Malta, Nigeria and Togo,” says Neuhauser.
The Advanced Prenatal supplement contains a mixture of 24 different vitamins and minerals in a bioavailable form. It also includes the recommended daily dose of choline at 550 mg.
Previous studies have shown that supplements of choline during pregnancy may have decreasing effects for the child to suffer from respiratory diseases, which received extra attention during the COVID-19 pandemic. Choline may also help to increase IBR-Q scores and boost brain health.
The dosage of the supplement contains six capsules per day, which according to Ovaterra, has been proven more beneficial and nutritious than when similar supplements contain fewer capsules.
The second product, The Advanced prep 35-39, contains an additional 25 mg of fertinatal DHEA. This contributes to supporting overall ovarian health, the company notes.
This supplement is designed to help women between the ages 35 and 39 conceive, which inspired the inclusion of 35-39 in the product name. The consumption period is advised to be three months prior pregnancy, during and three months postpartum.
The packaging and dosage are close to identical for the two products. The Advanced Prenatal supplement packages together six capsules that are the equivalent of one daily dosage in a pouch, which is easily transportable. The only difference is that the Advanced Prep 35-39 comes with an additional tablet per day.
Women-led nutritional innovation
Ovaterra is a women-led company based in New York, US, focused on reproductive healthcare. They strive toward providing a fully updated platform adapted to the latest scientific research in the reproductive field, including a “personal touch.”
Their products were developed in collaboration with Rebecca Fett, a fertility author. Her combined background in patent law, molecular biology and biochemistry and personal experience led her to identify the need from consumers and develop these specified prenatal vitamins, according to Ovaterra
The company’s current challenge as well as future development is to transform the individual packs to 100% fully compostable material, the company states.
The products can be purchased from Ovaterra’s website and through different retailers such as Amazon. They are also available in certain fertility clinics and pharmacies.
