Kate Farms’ Glucose Support 1.2 formula may stabilize blood sugar in diabetes patients
03 Feb 2022 --- Kate Farms, a producer of plant-based medical formulas, has unveiled Glucose Support 1.2, a low-glycemic nutrition shake that has been shown to produce a lower blood sugar response than that of a standard nutrition shake.
“Glucose Support 1.2 shakes offer clinicians and people living with Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes a new choice for nutrition support – plant-based shakes made for tolerance,” Brett Matthews, chair and CEO of Kate Farms, tells NutritionInsight.
This plant-based nutritional shake launch comes at a time when more than 34 million US citizens have diabetes and approximately 90 to 95% of them have Type 2 diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Nutrition is vital for the management of diabetes. It can be hard to know what to eat and how much while making sure your body gets the healthy sources of protein, carbohydrates, fats, nutrients and fiber to keep you fueled and functioning at your best,” says Cynthia Ambres chief medical officer, Kate Farms.Traditional diabetes meal replacement shakes frequently lack vital nutrients and contain artificial sweeteners.
The ready-to-drink shake contains a phytonutrient blend of plant-based protein prebiotic fiber extracts from broccoli, kale, turmeric and blueberries. Additionally, each serving has 28 vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, C, D, E and zinc, to help support immunity.
Plant-based nutrition may be beneficial for patients
According to the company, studies show that whole food plant-based nutrition may be an effective and powerful tool for those with diabetes. Yet, those with diabetes have limited options for a nutritionally complete, plant-based meal.
“There are millions of people living in the US with chronic diseases who are experiencing significant intolerance challenges due to the subpar ingredients in synthetic nutrition available from brands,” says Matthews.
Most traditional meal replacement shakes for people with diabetes often lack essential nutrients or contain artificial sweeteners and common allergens like dairy and soy.
While Kate Farms is available to more than 600 US hospitals, including Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic, Matthews explains that it is pushing for more plant-based options in health systems across the country.
Suitable as a meal replacement or snack
Kate Farms Glucose Support 1.2 is available in vanilla flavor and is suitable for consumers on the go and looking to enjoy a delicious meal replacement shake, quick snack or post-workout drink, the company says.
The Glucose Support 1.2 nutrition shakes can be purchased online or via prescription. Kate Farms shakes are eligible for insurance coverage by Medicare and Medicaid.Kate Farms notes that nutrition is important for the management of diabetes.
Commenting on what the future holds for Kate Farms, Matthews says: “In 2022, we will continue to expand our product portfolio with new formula launches. We’ll share more details when available.”
