Herbalife debuts nutrition boosting companion for long-term GLP-1 weight loss
20 Feb 2024 --- Health and wellness company Herbalife launched GLP-1 Nutrition Companion, a range of food and supplement product combinations to boost the nutritional needs of individuals on GLP-1 and other weight-loss medications. The classic and vegan options are available in the US and Puerto Rico in various flavors.
“Weight-loss drugs curb your appetite, so people taking medications like GLP-1 Agonist may have difficulty getting all the macronutrients, micronutrients or physical activity they need for optimal muscular, cardiovascular and brain health,” says Dr. Kent Bradley, chief health and nutrition officer at Herbalife.
“Individuals taking these medications should supplement with products that help meet these needs and focus on making foundational lifestyle changes to achieve sustainable weight loss.”
Muscle density and malnutrition
According to Herbalife, recent research shows people taking GLP-1 weight-loss medications can experience a reduction in muscle density and malnutrition. The new range of products addresses these nutritional deficiencies with the compositions that provide protein and fiber.
Each product combination delivers protein to help build muscle tissue and maintain lean muscle mass while releasing energy and fiber to promote regularity and a healthy digestive system. The classic combo has essential vitamins and minerals for overall health, while the vegan combo contains three organic blends of 20 fruits and vegetables.
“Our independent distributors help their customers meet their weight-loss goals and establish healthy habits with nutritious products, combined with coaching and a supportive community,” says Humbi Calleja, vice president and general manager of Herbalife, North America.
The companion range
The nutrition companion range includes the classic product combo, a Formula 1 healthy meal nutritional shake mix, a protein drink mix, an active fiber complex, a vegan combo, a plant-based protein shake, digestive support and a greens booster.
While protein continues to be a key ingredient in active and specialized nutrition categories, products are expanding into new consumer groups, benefiting from a growing interest in holistic health. Innovative product formats and diversification of protein sources, including plant-based alternatives, are further changing the sector.
Meanwhile, the dairy protein market continually evolves as the ingredients expand beyond the sports nutrition space. Currently, dairy proteins are trending as sought-after ingredients in the holistic health, gut health and functional and fortifying ingredients categories.
In addition, Arla Foods Ingredients is honing its clear protein portfolio with ready-to-mix solutions tailored to consumer activity levels, ranging from weight lifters to yoga practitioners.
