Hemp Bombs expands CBD edible offerings into immunity and sleep positionings
22 Mar 2021 --- US-based Global Widget is expanding its cannabidiol (CBD) edible offerings from its brand Hemp Bombs with four new products, including positionings for immunity and sleep.
The four new products include Immunity Boost CBD Gummies which feature 50 mg of elderberry extract and 15mg of CBD in each gummy; Botanical Blend CBD Gummies, boasting a “classic” proprietary blend and 15 mg of CBD in each gummy; CBD Max Chill Shot, reformulated with a new raspberry dream flavor and 100 mg of CBD in a 2.5-fluid oz bottle; and Sleep CBD Capsules that contain 15 mg of CBD along with 5 mg of the sleep aid melatonin in each capsule.
Following its “Year of More” in 2020, Hemp Bombs CBD Capsules now include more capsules per package for the same price as the previously available sizes.
“Continuing with our Year of More in 2020, we are responding to consumer and retail feedback by incorporating new products that can easily fit into our customers’ daily health and wellness routines,” says Kevin Collins, co-CEO of Global Widget.
The capsules, available in original, high potency and a new sleep variety, are available in eight-count blister packs and 20-, 50- and 100-count bottles.
Original CBD Capsules contain 15 mg of CBD per capsule, High-Potency CBD Capsules feature 30 mg of CBD per capsule.
Last July, CBD synergies were pegged as an area with “incredible growth potential,” according to Collette Kakuk, vice president of global marketing at HempRise.
This aligns with Innova Market Insights’ 2020 trend, “A Star is Born,” which highlighted CBD as a rising key ingredient.
Consumer acceptance of the product has driven NPD, despite its ambiguous regulatory status. The US Food and Drug Administration US FDA, for example, denied the ingredient generally recognized as safe (GRAS) status in 2019.
The following year, the FDA reopened the public comment window on cannabis and cannabidiol (CBD) products, “extending it indefinitely,” a move that could delay regulatory action, according to some experts.
However, regulation is moving forward in the EU. From March 31 onward, all CBD finished products must align with a Novel Food application, submitted to both the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) to remain on the EU and UK market.
These new regulation changes are expected to result in increased visibility, traceability and the improved quality of CBD products.
Perfecting delivery
Ingredient companies are innovating in the CBD to maximize its quick and effective delivery.
This January, for example, Truss CBD USA announced its new line of hemp-derived CBD beverages called Verywell would use Quicksilver Scientific’s patent-pending nanoemulsion technology to ensure fast CBD delivery.
CBD is also being leveraged in personal care, as seen in Amyris’ recent acquisition of Terasana, which will enable Amyris to launch skin care applications formulated with natural cannabinoids.
