FOS From Sucrose Allowed in Infant Formulae in China
18 Nov 2013 --- The National Health and Family Planning Commission of China now authorises Actilight short chain Fructo-oligosaccharides from sucrose as a permitted substance for fortification in Infant Formulae.
Actilight is a non viscous, instant soluble fiber with a taste profile similar to sucrose. Compared to other prebiotic fibers, and especially to Galacto-oligosaccharides, our Actilight 950P contains a high level of fibers (about 95%) and a low level of sugars (less than 5%). It is the prebiotic fiber with the highest capacity to stimulate the growth of bifidobacteria (Prebiotic Index = 8.8). Actilight short chain Fructo-oligosaccharides is known as being effective at low dosage.
Clinical studies carried out in Europe have shown that scFOS is safe and suitable for infant and young children. It has been demonstrated that a supplementation of scFOS in the diet up to 4g/liter in infant milk formulae and up to 5g/liter in follow on milk increases the population of bifidobacteria in the gut and modulate the immune response in formula-fed infants.
