14 Feb 2017 --- Evolva have launched Veri-te, the brand for high-purity, sustainably produced resveratrol. Veri-te resveratrol is produced from the same natural fermentation process that has been used for years to make high-purity ingredients with uniform consistency, ranging from medicines to food ingredients.

Resveratrol is a polyphenol that is found in several types of plants, protecting them from a harsh growing environment. Scientific evidence suggests that it can do the same in humans working at a cellular level to assist healthy ageing and mimic the age decelerating results of a calorie-restricted diet. To-date, more than 9,000 scientific studies have been published on resveratrol, with more than 1,000 in 2016 alone. This published research and clinical data suggests that resveratrol can play a role in healthy ageing through bone health, cardiovascular health, blood glucose control, healthy cognitive function, skin youthfulness and oral health.

“But, not all resveratrol is created equal,” said Evolva SVP of Health and Wellness Angela Tsetsis. “Customers are now looking for the highest quality resveratrol and a transparent and trustworthy supplier to meet growing demand for a whole range of resveratrol-formulated health and wellness products. Veri-te and Evolva are uniquely well positioned to capitalize on this rapidly expanding consumer demand for resveratrol.”

Tsetsis told NutritionInsight: ”Resveratrol gained popularity with the French paradox in the 90s, and then with further research on better aging that was done in the 2000s the demands for this part variety coming from fermentation addresses the issues of having a reliable consistent source that is made from a natural process. This process began in 2012, and it was launched in 2014, the news now is that we have put a brand to it to better differentiate ourselves in the market.”

Veri-te resveratrol marks a major step forward for the category, which has been dominated by resveratrol derived from Chinese extracts of a highly invasive and environmentally destructive weed. The closed system fermentation process of Veri-te avoids the possibility of environmental contaminants sometimes seen in these extracts and provides the desired consistency and purity through a natural process.

With a strong brand  reflecting the high quality of our resveratrol, the launch of Veri-te opens up new opportunities for Evolva for jointly branded finished products within the supplement market. This co-branding will help create a pull from the market by raising consumer awareness of the many benefits, not just of resveratrol, but of Evolva’s high-purity, sustainably produced resveratrol.

Veri-te is off-white in color, odorless and tasteless. It can be readily used in a wide range of consumer health applications from food supplements (capsules, tablets, chews) and cosmetics to energy and wellness drinks and personal care products. Veri-te resveratrol is certified Pharma Grade, and authorized for consumer use under EU Novel Foods and US Self-Affirmed GRAS.

UK yogurt sugar content often well above recommended threshold, survey finds

21 Sep 2018 --- Many yogurts sold in UK supermarkets contain high levels of sugar, a survey published in BMJ has highlighted. Researchers from the Universities of Leeds and Surrey analyzed the product information of 921 yogurts and found that organic yogurts and those marketed towards children, in particular, had high levels of sugar. Fewer than 9 percent of products surveyed contained less than the 5 g of sugar per 100 grams threshold required to be classed “low sugar” and carry a green “traffic light” nutritional label in the UK. As such, reformulation for the reduction of free sugars in yogurts is warranted.

“BPA-free” plastic can still cause harm to mice – and maybe humans, researchers warn

20 Sep 2018 --- Bisphenol A (BPA) alternatives used in “BPA-free” bottles, cups, cages and other items have been found to cause reproductive problems in mice by researchers at Washington State University. “BPA-free” or not, plastic products that show signs of damage or aging cannot be considered safe, the researchers warn. Patricia Hunt, a researcher in the lab, further tells PackagingInsights that it is not possible for consumers to determine if a product contains bisphenols, but states that “new recycling codes or other mandatory labeling that would allow consumers to make educated decisions would be ideal.”
