Danone unveils online education resource for healthcare professionals
21 May 2021 --- Danone’s nutritional health arm, Nutricia, is bringing together leading international health experts to produce Danone Nutricia Campus, a digital resource and training platform for healthcare professionals.
The platform will enable easy access to the latest nutrition research and commentary from independent experts, making it simple for busy healthcare professionals with little time to update their knowledge.
Katrien van Laere, chief medical officer at Danone, tells NutritionInsight that the ambition for Danone Nutricia Campus is to become the go-to-hub for nutrition education.
“By enabling easy access to the latest nutrition research and commentary from independent experts, it will make it simple for busy healthcare professionals with little time to update their knowledge.”
Moving to digital
Since its inception 125 years ago, Nutricia has partnered with the healthcare community on breakthrough scientific discoveries.
Through the new platform, healthcare professionals can access the latest clinical research and insights from leading clinicians, personalized for their specialization and areas of interest.
The COVID-19 pandemic has underlined the importance of healthcare professionals having quick access to independent, factual information “at the touch of a button.”
According to Nutricia, nearly 90 percent of doctors see some advantage in digital health tools, and 70 percent of doctors in Europe find they would not be able to do their job without access to digital technology and information.
One of the main challenges healthcare professionals in digital medical education face is accessing expert opinions from leading specialists in the field.
The platform will operate as a not-for-profit foundation to advance the field of nutrition through open science, training and education. The platform is overseen by the independent board of the foundation composed of experts in nutrition and health, including Dr. Van Goudoever and Dr. Yvan Vandenplas of the University Hospital Brussels.
Specialization of health
The scientific education programs available on Danone Nutricia Campus range from specializations such as the role of nutrition in early life, the benefits of breastfeeding, allergy and immunity, disease-related malnutrition and nutrition in aging, and critical care.
The foundation’s scientific board will curate the nutrition research and educational content on the platform. By following the programs, healthcare professionals can advance their professional development through personalized medical education and connect with peers in their community.
“In a time that has placed unprecedented strain on healthcare systems, Nutricia is committed to supporting healthcare professionals in providing ever-better care,” says Van Laere.
With Danone Nutricia Campus, Nutricia says it reinforces its commitment to collaboration and pioneering science, which examines how specialized nutrition can impact health.
Last year, Nutricia supported clinician-initiated research projects in 16 countries around the world with grants totaling approximately €1 million (US$1.1 million).
The company is also supporting healthcare organizations in different countries by donating medical nutrition products enriched with calories and proteins, which are designed to help patients regain lost weight and strength after recovering from a serious illness, such as COVID-19.
