Weekly Roundup: Kendamil keeps distributing to US, Glanbia Nutritionals launches protein concentrate

Enwave revealed that the Dole Worldwide Food and Beverages Group has leased two more of its patented dehydration machines. Glanbia Nutritionals launched FerriUp, a protein concentrate aimed at active women. Meanwhile, the US experienced an outbreak of Listeria linked to brie and camembert cheeses.

UK-based Kendamil announced its plans for long-term distribution of its infant formula brands following the new guidelines set by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Kendamil was the first European infant formula to be delivered via Operation Fly formula in June of this year. The new plan will see the company continuing distribution until October 2025.

Protein Rebel is offering a marine collagen peptide to support runners’ joints. Glanbia Naturals launched FerriUp, a vitamin B and lactoferrin-rich protein concentrate targeted at active women. The company states that only 0.6% of product launches are tailored for women. The product is meant to support the iron, energy, protein and immunity needs of women who engage in strenuous athletic activities.

The Canada-based producer of vacuum microwave dehydrators, EnWave revealed that Dole Food and Beverage Group has leased two additional 10kW Radiant Energy Vacuum food dehydration machines from the company. EnWave stated that this is a continuation of a partnership formed with the F&B company in August of 2021.

Puris launched its first consumer brand AcreMade, a plant-based egg substitute made from yellow field peas. According to the company, the product is ideal for baking, scramblers and even for making a quiche. The product is free from the top nine allergens and made from an upcycled pea starch with no cholesterol and 5 g of protein per serving.

Kroger Health and the nonprofit organization Priority Health announced a partnership to create two new Medicare plans: PriorityMedicare + Kroger and PriorityMedicare D-SNP + Kroger. Those eligible for enrollment will receive benefit allowances that can be spent on nutritious food and health and nutrition supplements.

The UK-based sports nutrition company Protein Rebel launched Run Easy, an unflavored marine collagen peptide powder targeting runners. According to the company, the product is meant to reduce injury by strengthening ligaments and joints and notes that up to 50% of runners experience some form of injury each year.

The US FDA announced a long-term pathway to help stabilize the country’s infant formula supply chain and help diversify the market. To do so, the agency will continue to use force discretion on the domestic distribution of foreign imported formula products.

A new study out of Spain, published in Nutrients, revealed that dietary habits may play a significant role, not only in the development of non-communicable diseases like obesity and diabetes, but also in cognitive function and brain structure changes. The researchers found that consuming a diet high in fat, sugar and salt, even for a short time, contributed to deficits in learning and memory.

A cross-sectional study, also out of Spain and published in Nutrients, found that consuming a Mediterranean-style diet helps to prevent obesity and obesity-related diseases, may increase overall lifespan and has a relatively low environmental impact, but the amount of people eating the diet appears to be decreasing. Non-smokers who lived with a partner were more likely to utilize the diet style, while smokers who lived alone were the least likely to adhere to it.
