SLS Nutraceuticals partners with Prinova to bring cognitive ingredients stateside
08 Jul 2019 --- Food and nutritional ingredients manufacturer Prinova is partnering with SLS Nutraceuticals, a subsidiary of biotechnology company Senescence Life Sciences Pte. Ltd., to bring a line of clinically studied cognitive ingredients to the US market. Under the agreement, Prinova will have exclusive distribution rights for SLS Nutraceuticals’ patent-pending line of ingredient complexes for brain health – NeuroBloom, NeuroScope and NeuroZone. The flagship ingredient NeuroBloom is said to address multiple facets of cognitive performance and brain health, with the ultimate goal of delaying cognitive decline associated with stress, lack of sleep and aging. NeuroScope and NeuroZone are further tailored to address the unique cognitive requirements of e-Gamers and MMA athletes.
As a manufacturer of functional premixes, Prinova will produce all proprietary blends in-house. “The technology developed by SLS Nutraceuticals delivers on our customers’ demands for next-generation cognitive ingredients,” says Prinova’s Business Development Manager of Innovation, Dan Force.
“The growth we’ve seen in the space over the last 18 months has been largely based on high stimulation products that don’t focus on the underlying mechanisms of cognitive decline. NeuroBloom tackles the problem at its core and provides a long-term solution to keep our brains healthy and fit. For our customers, this presents an opportunity to expand their cognitive portfolio and offer a more holistic solution to consumers,” Force notes.
Innova Market Insights pegged “I Feel Good” as its number eight trend for 2019, denoting a consumer who seeks out ingredients and products that enhance their state of well-being - not only physically, but mentally. Nootropics, which are defined as substances that enhance cognition and memory and facilitate learning are a key trending area to look out for within the “feel good” space.
“As our solution spans everyone from 25-year-old gamers, who eat poorly and sleep less, to senior citizens worried about age-related memory decline, we needed a partner who knew how to effectively communicate the benefits of our products to a broad consumer base,” says SLS Nutraceuticals top neuroscientist and founder Dr. Shawn Watson.
The modern lifestyle is physically taxing on bodies and brains, as stressed by Dr. Watson. “Factors such as stress, poor diet, lack of sleep and aging cause a slow build-up of damage in our brain which impacts our cognitive capabilities, and how we perform at work and home. One of the first neurological components to be damaged are the lipids [fats], that make up about 60 percent of our brain. Our technology is centered around repairing and recycling these lipids to promote long term brain health and provide a non-stimulant solution to increase cognitive performance.”
“While we have exciting initial data, our research isn’t finished yet,” adds Dr. Watson. “Our next round of double-blind trials are significantly larger and will look beyond cognition and into improvements in stress levels, sleep quality and mood. Similar to our pilot studies, we look to continue seeing consistent improvements in cognitive scores across a variety of domains ranging from executive function and emotional identification to spatial memory and flexible thinking.”
Earlier this year, Prinova was acquired by Nagase, a leading chemical trading firm in Japan founded in 1832 with annual revenues of approximately US$7.5 billion, in a move said to bring both geographical and portfolio expansion opportunities for the US-headquartered distributor.
