Raisio Files Ten New Patent Applications for Benemilk Technology
02 Aug 2013 --- The patent process related to Raisio’s groundbreaking Benemilk technology is proceeding on schedule. Certain initial Benemilk related patent applications are scheduled by the relevant patent authorities to be made publicly available on 1 August 2013.
The applications becoming public are related to the Benemilk compound feeds and concentrates as well as to improved milk composition.
In addition, as of 31 July 2013, Benemilk Oy has filed a total of 10 new international patent applications related to the Benemilk invention. New patent applications will complement the already pending applications filed in early 2012. Several of the newly filed patent applications are for new innovations and all are related to the Benemilk invention.
Raisio and Intellectual Ventures - its partner in the joint venture Benemilk Oy - anticipate that Benemilk Oy will file additional patent applications by the end of 2013. This could potentially double the number of patent applications related to Benemilk. The company also has plans to file further patent applications related to the Benemilk invention in 2014.
Raisio’s CEO Matti Rihko commented, “As expected, the collaboration with Intellectual Ventures is proceeding well. Our work together has demonstrated IV’s international expertise in IPR matters and increased Raisio's opportunities related to the Benemilk invention.”
Executive Vice President for the Invention Development Fund at Intellectual Ventures, Chris Alliegro, noted: “Intellectual Ventures and Raisio have developed new and very strong inventions for the Benemilk project. These inventions will enhance the protections available to the Benemilk brand, and will further strengthen the underlying technology with additional innovations. Intellectual Ventures believes its collaboration with Raisio will ultimately help advance agricultural practices and address the global problem of ensuring food sufficiency.”
