Origin Labs introduces NFC tech to “demystify” new CBD product line
NFC technology provides consumers with easily accessible transparency and education currently missing from CBD sector
09 Jan 2020 --- US-based Origin Labs has launched a four-part cannabidiol (CBD) product line, PearlCBD, which harnesses the power of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. With a tap of a mobile phone to the PearlCBD product, consumers can easily access its educational content, authenticity verification and batch-specific lab test results. As the CBD industry is currently riddled with regulatory and product content confusion, PearlCBD and its patent-pending digital NFC technology aim to bring transparency and accountability to an industry lacking standardization.
“The patent-pending technology powering PearlCBD will set a much-needed new standard in not only the CBD sector, but the entire cannabis space. PearlCBD is pioneering this transformative technology to both demystify the industry and spark educational conversations. Ultimately, this will cement the necessary trust with the end-consumer,” Chris Hollod, PearlCBD Advisor, Angel Investor and Venture Capitalist, says in a press release.
Research on the multi-billion-dollar CBD industry has shown that it operates within a “disjointed, patchwork system of state regulations,” which has increased the pressure for federal agencies to implement a “uniform regulatory framework.” The extensive existing regulations surrounding CBD products are currently poorly monitored or enforced and struggle to meet the needs of this unrestrained, rapidly growing market.
Consumers need only tap their mobile phones to any PearlCBD product to gain access to batch test results, cultivation data, videos of the labs, educational content and more. This technology is touted as providing a convenient, easy-to-use way to obtain the transparency and knowledge that CBD enthusiasts require to trust the safety and efficacy of PearlCBD’s products.
“We are poised to be at the forefront of standardization if and when regulation makes its way to the CBD industry,” Danny Davis, Creator of PearlCBD and Founder of OffStage Holdings, envisions. He expects to license the revolutionary technology to other CBD companies looking for a means to provide transparency. Eventually, he predicts other sectors will join the movement as well, such as agriculture and beyond.
Indeed, NFC and other connective packaging technologies are already preparing for full-scale deployments across multiple markets. PearlCBD’s launch exemplifies the vast potential of the technology’s application in terms of providing extensive product information on a limited amount of packaging. Usage of NFC continues to grow, most recently featured in Guala Closure wine bottle closures. In 2019, Californian wine brand Böen became the first wine brand in the US to deploy full-scale NFC technology to its bottle caps and the innovation has taken off since then.
Product details
The initial rollout features four flagship products including a lotion, cream, oil tincture and capsules. PearlCBD products contain organically grown, hemp-derived, full-spectrum CBD oil and are vegan, non-GMO, paraben-free and cruelty-free. Origin Labs manufactures PearlCBD in its US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-registered lab in accordance with quality standards and stringent practices.
PearlCBD contains less than the legal limit of 0.3 percent tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), ensuring no psychoactive reactions. However, the full-spectrum CBD oil retains the hemp plant’s original terpenes and phytocannabinoids to deliver a whole plant experience. With farming based in Colorado, US, the brand grows the cannabis plants organically, without the use of added pesticides or chemicals. This is to safeguard its topicals’ and ingestibles’ naturalness.
The PearlCBD portfolio is touted for being beneficial for both skin and planetary health. After applying the CBD topicals to the skin, many users report pain relief benefits. PearlCBD’s 2 oz cream features 1000 mg of CBD, as well as the added pain relief benefits of glucosamine, chondroitin and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM). Moreover, the company's products are free from contaminants or harsh chemicals. They are vegan, non-GMO, paraben-free, and cruelty-free.
An additional sustainability feature, PearlCBD aims to use sustainable packaging where possible. This includes recyclable cardboard shipping boxes and omits using outer throw-away boxes. The company also uses high quality materials for the product jars themselves, including glass bottles and bisphenol A (BPA)-free plastic airless pumps for the lotion.
