Nektium inaugurates new facilities to expand its botanical extracts production

24 Jan 2019 --- Nektium has inaugurated new facilities that have five times the production capacity compared to its previous facilities, which will allow the company to expand its distribution reach. The facilities are located in the Canary Islands and include a manufacturing plant, laboratories and an office complex all designed to produce high-quality standardized botanical extracts. Construction began in 2015 and was completed late last year, with the facilities now being fully operational.

Nektium’s objective is to offer its customers an interesting portfolio of innovative branded botanical extracts next to a range of standardized extract commodities, produced in the EU on the Canary Islands and the new facilities will cater to this, Deborah Thoma, Nektium Marketing Manager tells NutritionInsight.

The company has extended its network of distribution partnerships to achieve a greater reach for its products. “Currently, we are represented in over 32 countries and this year we are aiming to enter new markets,” Thoma says.

“Researching innovative ingredients and producing them here in our facilities is the core of the business. It was a logical consequence to emphasize both these pillars of Nektium,” says Dr. Miguel Jiménez, Founder of Nektium Pharma.

The expansion was noted by the Spanish Secretary of State for Commerce, Xiana Méndez who attended the inauguration last Friday (18 January) among other representatives of the Spanish Government.

North America, Europe and Asia are the principal markets for nutraceuticals and markets that Nektium works in. The common theme between all of these continents is an increased demand for high-quality, clean label ingredients.

“We see more demand than ever for our botanical extracts,” says Annette Badenhorst, Sales & Marketing Director at Nektium. “This [new production plant] allows us to expand the sales of our principal products including Rhodiolife, Xanthigen and Zynamite to many parts of the world.”

The company notes that it works closely with their distributors in order to get direct market feedback. “This communication leads to the development of ingredients with a unique value proposition, developed by an R&D team that counts on an experienced ethnobotanist and medical doctor,” says Thoma.

According to Nektium, its natural caffeine replacement ingredient launched last year, coined Zynamite, is expected to continue gaining popularity in 2019.

“The ingredient is as stimulating as caffeine but does not have the side-effects usually experienced when consuming coffee. The interest in the product was, and still is impressive, and the first consumer products are hitting the shelves this year,” notes Thoma.

“Products addressing mental health and, in particular, nootropics will surely be a significant topic,” she adds.
