Ingredia to Present High Protein Beverage for Aging Population
03 May 2017 --- Ingredia is to present a high protein beverage concept which combines two nutritional dairy ingredients: PRODIET Fluid and PRODIET Hydrolysate S 25 at Vitafoods Europe in Geneva next week. PRODIET Fluid is native micellar casein that makes it possible to enrich beverages with very high protein levels, while keeping very good fluidity in the finished product. PRODIET Hydrosylate S 25 is a whey protein hydrolysate, with low bitterness, allowing for the enrichment of a maximum level of protein and significantly increasing the leucine content.
Ingredia’s new beverage concept contains 12% of protein, sugar, fat, vitamins and minerals. The nutritional composition is adapted for the aging population to reduce overnight fasting thanks to the hydrolysate (fast assimilation) and native micellar casein (slow assimilation). This high protein beverage contains a high quantity of hydrolysate 10g and 3.6g of leucine (in 250ml).
Protein plays a key role in improving the health of aging people. As an actor in the food industry, Ingredia has a role in improving the well-being of this population. If aging adults lack protein, depletion in protein is responsible for the complication of malnutrition. One of the critical periods is the night fasting period when this malnourished status can be aggravated.
Ingredia’s focus is to study the functionality and nutritional benefits of milk proteins. The company has developed a high protein beverage concept combining two innovative ingredients, for a perfect nutritional profile and an optimized functionality.
“PRODIET Fluid and PRODIET Hydrolysate S 25 are ingredients already sold to the major nutrition companies. However, this is the first time that we combine these two ingredients in a beverage for the clinical nutrition market,” Ingredia Product Manager Aude Ragot tells NutritionInsight.
“The combination micellar caseins and hydrolysates for the clinical nutrition market, is quite innovative. There are not many products on the market that offer this combination of ingredients,” Ragot adds. “This association offers a complete product that meets the needs of the aging population. Hydrolysates stimulate muscle synthesis whereas micellar casein will be ideal for an efficient muscle recovery several hours after the consumption and thus reduce the overnight fasting period and therefore reduce the malnutrition risk.”
