DSM enters UK distribution partnership with Salutivia
10 Aug 2018 --- Salutivia has been appointed as the UK distributor for DSM Nutritional Products within the food, nutrition and supplement markets for customers served through the DSM distributor supply chain.
Salutivia is a full range food ingredient distributor working with Firmenich, Rousselot, DSM and Food Ingredients & Specialities in sweet, savory, beverage and supplement markets, “creating tangible value for supplier partners and customers.”
In terms of distribution in the UK, the partnership could simplify UK operations for DSM: “DSM has operations in every European country. Having a dedicated distribution partner in the UK means that DSM can focus their activities on their direct accounts whilst knowing that Salutivia will develop the SME accounts of which there are hundreds. Post-Brexit, whatever the deal is, DSM will have a partner operating in the UK who is actively servicing and making lasting partnerships with hundreds of SMEs in the UK,” a Salutivia spokesperson tells NutritionInsight.
The Salutivia spokesperson states that they will, post-Brexit, provide customers with a best-in-class service to promote NPD recipes, be experts on the needs of overseas consumers in terms of the euro and the pound and add that one part of the GBP depreciation argument means food imported will cost more. So, at the time of the Brexit vote, currency based price increases were from 10 percent to 20 percent. This means the UK needs to become more self-sufficient, they explain, and the government must be looking at a gap analysis comparing the capability to produce in the UK versus EU imports and look for potential partners. Some import solutions are simply not practicable for the UK. There simply is not sufficient infrastructure. So identifying potential partners for post-Brexit deals is a must.
“Salutivia’s experience in novel ingredient applications together with best in class technical, regulatory and manufacturing knowledge has led to the development of long-standing successful market relationships with key suppliers, such as DSM Nutritional Products and with customers,” the company claims.
Furthermore, “Another important and growing market opportunity are the vegan, vegetarian and flexitarian markets and these will provide challenges for flavor, texture and nutritional value. Salutivia is rapidly developing an expertise for all non-meat proteins including needed technical information including amino acid profiling,” the spokesperson adds.
“This strategic partnership between Salutivia and DSM will ensure customers who are passionate about their brand are supplied with specialty ingredients and value-added solutions to solve their problems. DSM’s market-leading product range of vitamins, carotenoids and essential fatty acids together with Salutivia’s New Product Development food laboratory provides customers with a center of excellence to develop and bring innovative products alive, supported by incisive marketing and trend analysis,” the statement continues.
Salutivia is a member of LEL, a strategic alliance of privately owned, technical distributors selling specialties into industrial, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food markets and operating in Europe, Africa and America.
