How Vitamin Angels tackles hidden hunger in infants and pregnant women

Amid rising acute hunger and malnutrition worldwide in 2025, US-based NGO Vitamin Angels highlights the distinction between hunger and hidden hunger — a form of malnutrition in which people have enough calories to survive but not enough essential vitamins and nutrients. The organization points to the FAO’s most recent report on food insecurity and malnutrition, “The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2024,” which estimates that over “one-third of people in the world — about 2.8 billion — could not afford a healthy diet in 2022.” Although these levels are decreasing, the FAO cautions that progress is uneven across regions.

An analysis of satellite data reveals ocean waters are becoming greener at the poles and bluer toward the equator. AI-powered ingredient discovery company Shiru launched the GLP-1 Innovation Alliance, inviting both Fortune 500 consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies and emerging brands to “collaborate as equals.” Shiru will grant businesses of all sizes access to its proprietary Flourish AI platform and library of over 33 million proteins to explore natural approaches to GLP-1 pathway activation. The company says the alliance is a “radical departure” from traditional industry collaborations as these typically exclude smaller businesses from cutting-edge research opportunities. 
Pharmactive’s Affron strengthens mood-health portfolio with new clinical results

Recent clinical trial results reinforce the potential of Affron, the saffron extract developed by Pharmactive Biotech Products, to support individuals with mild depressive symptoms. A daily cup of caffeinated coffee may lower all-cause mortality risk by 16%, according to a new study. Black coffee and coffee with low added sugar and saturated fat were linked to a 14% lower risk of mortality. However, researchers at Tufts University, US, did not see this link for coffee with high added sugar and saturated fat. Mortality outcomes included all-cause, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.

A global investigation into industrialized egg farms across 35 countries has uncovered widespread abuse of caged hens amid a worldwide spike in bird flu outbreaks. The Open Wing Alliance, a coalition of nearly 100 organizations established by The Humane League, compiled and released footage depicting egg-laying hens in overcrowded cages, injured birds, disease-ridden conditions, and even rotting carcasses.
