12 Apr 2017 --- Bridge2Food has announced some of the nominees for this year’s Bridge2Food Sports & Active Nutrition Awards which celebrate the innovators creating the next generation of categories, products, beverages and ingredients to cater to increasingly health conscious consumer. The closing date for entries is 30 April 2017, when the expert panel of judges will select a shortlist of finalists. The winners will be announced on 13 June 2017 at the Bridge2Food 7th Sports & Active Nutrition Summit.

Maple water: One to watch amid plant-based waters surge

15 Aug 2018 --- Plant-based waters are rising as a share of soft drink launches, with Innova Market Insights reporting a 25 percent CAGR in this emerging area of NPD between 2012 and 2017, compared with a 7 percent CAGR for the soft drinks category as a whole. Despite coconut water clearly leading the plant-based hydration category, 2017 saw 28 percent of the category launches from new plant-based waters, with maple water among the beverages within this category expansion, albeit from a small base.

Coca-Cola invests in Bodyarmor, challenges Pepsi’s sports drink dominance

15 Aug 2018 --- Coca-Cola is to acquire a minority ownership stake in Bodyarmor – a fast-growing line of premium sports performance and hydration beverages – in a move that signifies Coca-Cola’s challenge to the strong market player Gatorade, which is owned by Pepsi. Financial terms of the agreement, including the size of the acquired stake, have not been disclosed.

Protein boost for Boost: Nestlé ups the content in flagship “adult nutrition” product

14 Aug 2018 --- Nestlé’s flagship adult nutrition high protein drink, Boost, now packs an even bigger protein punch. The company has increased the protein content of Boost in the US from 15g per serving to 20g – a protein increase of 33 percent – in a bid to appeal to the 51 years and older demographic. The use of protein as a source of strength and recovery aid is no longer limited to marathon runners. This is clear as nutritional demands from the senior demographic spurs higher protein NPD.
