10 May 2016 --- OmniActive Health Technologies has been granted a European patent for Lutemax 2020 (Patent No: EP2473065B1) entitled “A Xanthophyll Composition Containing Macular Pigments and a Process for its Preparation.”

The patent covers the composition and process of preparation for Lutemax 2020, “a xanthophyll composition containing macular pigments consisting of trans-lutein, zeaxanthin isomers – namely (R,R-zeaxanthin) and (R,S-zeaxanthin) – derived from  the plant extract/oleoresin containing xanthophylls/xanthophyll esters which is safe for human consumption and useful for nutrition and health care...”

Lutein and zeaxanthin are not produced by the body and their specialized locations and functions emphasize the need to consume all three macular carotenoids through diet or supplementation. Lutein and R,R-zeaxanthin are found in dark green leafy vegetables and yellow to orange fruits and vegetables, while R,S-zeaxanthin is found in fish such as salmon, sardine and trout.

“Lutemax 2020 is an innovative, science-backed ingredient providing all three macular carotenoids –  lutein, RR-zeaxanthin and RS-zeaxanthin –  at a 5:1 ratio of lutein:zeaxanthin isomers to optimally support eye health,” said Lynda Doyle, VP of Global Marketing, OmniActive Health Technologies.

“This European patent further supports the importance and safety of all three macular carotenoids, as well as OmniActive’s commitment to educate industry members, consumers, researchers and healthcare professionals about the important role macular carotenoids play in health – eye, skin and brain –  through each stage of life.”

OmniActive Health Technologies offers a range of ingredients, which are innovative and scientifically validated for dietary supplementation, nutritional fortification, functional food/beverage, coloring, flavor enhancement and personal care applications.

The company addresses complex challenges for customers in the dietary supplement, food and beverage space using technology-driven, sustainable solutions with application support within a global regulatory framework – for a new ingredient to add to a finished product, or an ingredient solution to enhance an existing ingredient.

Core products include carotenoids, plant extracts and specialty functional ingredients. OmniActive leverages international R&D strengths to deploy an array of state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies in extraction, purification, isolation and delivery of nutritional actives.

The company's manufacturing operations are located at multiple sites in India and are cGMP and HACCP system compliant.
