Asiros Launches New Standard of Bilberry Extract
25 Apr 2017 --- Asiros has launched its new bilberry extract, DX-BILBERRY. 3DX-Bilberry exclusively uses bilberries originating from the EU and is the only bilberry extract verified by U-HPLC-qTOF fingerprint.
“At Asiros we see a clear trend towards product integrity,” Gitte Sjørslev VP of International Sales told NutritionInsight.
“The industry is driven more and more by the need to know where the raw material originates from, how it is processed and who are the people behind it.”
“This has become a mark of quality in an industry that have a plethora of choices that are very often hard to distinguish.”
“The new 3DX-Bilberry extract is of known origin, sourced and processed entirely by Asiros at its own manufacturing plant and developed and analyzed at its own laboratories – which taps nicely into the industry need for high integrity products.”
The product is grown in the vast wild forest of Northern Europe, and the analyzing technology applied by Asiros reaches far beyond the standard DNA fingerprint and ordinary HPLC currently used by the industry.
“The 3DX-Bilberry extract will match up to the best in class products in the market and due to a new and innovative processing technology it will be possible to offer it at a better price,” Sjørslev explained.
Combined with the software designed to meet the challenges of qualitative flux analysis, the technology easily finds targeted secondary metabolites and displays results using advanced pathway visualization software.
“Asiros’ unique U-HPLC-qTOF fingerprint guarantees that the extract is made from the wild, very potent bilberry type Vaccinium myrtillus,” Sjørslev says.
“We guarantee that the Vaccinium myrtillus is of EU origin, handpicked in the clean and wild forests of Northern EU, whereas other extracts may be based on bilberries outside EU with less quality assurance.”
In terms of applications, Sjørslev explains that the 3DX-Bilberry is a concentrated extract with 36% anthocyanin which makes it very efficient to dose in supplements, sports nutrition or functional food.
“The bilberry anthocyanin is widely used in supplements for improved eye health, but a more general purpose as an anthocyanin rich ingredient added for its anti-oxidative effects is also a possibility,” he added.
