Founded in the early 2000s and based in Oregon, PowderPure utilizes its patented Infidri drying technology to create all-natural food ingredients by eliminating water while leaving the taste, nutrition and color matrix intact. Using minimal processing, PowderPure currently focuses on whole fruits and vegetable powders, juice powders, as well as other specialty products. PowderPure’s technology has also been used to effectively repurpose valuable materials resulting from other food processing systems, turning them into useful and nutritious products and saving them from waste streams. Sourced from 100% tapioca, these functional carbohydrates are Non-GM by origin and are available in a wide range of dextrose equivalents. GPC allowed visitors to sample a cool, refreshing watermelon or cucumber flavored beverage featuring GPC’s new MALTRIN tapioca maltodextrin.   • Matsutani Chemical Industry Co. Ltd., Japan's leading producer of specialty food starches, maltodextrins and rare sugars, was back at IFT showcasing the company’s rare sugar, Astraea Allulose. This ingredient is a plant-based, zero-calorie sweetener with proven physiological benefits. Astraea is a monosaccharide and a rare sugar – one of approximately 50 that exist in nature. The monosaccharide, characterized as a “rare sugar,” carries just 0.2 kcal per gram and gives true sugar flavor with no aftertaste.

  • According to Innova Market Insights data, high/source of protein claims in tracked food and beverage launches saw a CAGR of +27% over the 2012-2016 period.  This compares with a 19% rise in sports/recovery claims and 14% for energy/alertness over the same timeframe. These launches are increasingly targeting active lifestyles, moving outside traditional sports powders, drinks and bars to feature in a wide range of mainstream categories including beverages, dairy, soups, ready meals, cereals and bakery.
